"Walking across that stage means everything to me. It shows my family, especially my children, that no matter what challenges come your way, your goals are always worth fighting for."
Ready to Learn More?
[00:00:00] Kalana: I'm Kalana. Nursing is my passion. This is my why. I just have a heart for caring. There's just something in me that wants to make sure that everybody is okay. I just wanted to be a nurse for animals. Where I was in my training, there was another level, but once I got to that level, I would have hit a ceiling, and I've got all these RN friends and BSN friends, they're like, "You know, you could go further if you came over to the human side."
[00:00:28] I like to try different things. I don't like to be pigeonholed into one specific aspect. I had been in the veterinary field for almost 15 years. I don't wanna start this whole new journey. That's a big switch. What actually pushed me was there were just so many little signs like, "This is your new calling."
[00:00:48] As a mother of four, flexibility wasn't an option. It was everything. When I was trying to figure out which school, Hondros in every aspect of their curriculum fit perfectly. They really try to make it work for us. A lot of my professors have been nurses forever. They really build on the things that you should know.
[00:01:07] You can learn what's in the books, but it doesn't always correlate to what's actually happening on the floor. The curriculum is set up for success. The way that I'm being taught feels like I'm prepared. I've got a good foundation. That's a really good thing about this program. It is scary. I was terrified to start something new.
[00:01:25] It's gonna be life-changing because my kids see me, they will see that Mommy had a goal. Mommy wanted to do something more. She did it. I'd want my kids to understand that it's not easy. You don't just fall into things. I was comfortable in the life that I had, but there could always be more, and I want my kids to see that.
[00:01:43] If you do want more, you should go for it because it just feels good to grow, to take that next step. It is hard, but it's so worth it.
